Wellbeing in Westminster Event Oct 2010

Big Lottery Fund South Kilburn Healthy Living Initiatives

I come for the massage classes because I suffer with Lupus; the pains are very bad at times so I’m so grateful for a place that I can go to help me with pain management – and the therapists are nice and helpful. I would not like to see it closed.  I would find it greatly missed.  I have been coming for 2 years.                                                                                                           MM, NW6

Since my children have been having treatments, I find that they are much calmer by the end of the day. The children always enjoy and look forward to their treatment. My older son used to suffer from pins and needles in his legs, but since he has been having massages, he has no longer complained.

Flower Essences Project

When asked what changes people noticed in their lives since taking flower essences, they replied:

“There has been a great change. [I’m] not bad tempered and I am wide awake about what is going on around me.  [I am] learning to look after myself more instead of others.”

Adverse Psychiatric Reactions Information Line (APRIL)
 Wellbeing Drop-in Workshops

All of you gave love and caring to the group and that warmth and positive energy had a wonderful effect on all those present.  You all gave far more than just the talk or treatment. People were positively glowing when they returned from having acupuncture. Mei coped wonderfully with the tough questioning by 2 nurses!

The fact that they were relaxed to start with thanks to Christene, I am sure helped them too.

The comments on the evaluation forms about the workshop were:

  • It was very informative.
  • I learnt to meditate.
  • I had a relaxing massage.
  • I felt relaxed.

Should there be more workshops like this?

  • Yes it needs to be advertised to every carer who is able to attend.
  • Very good! Yes there should be more like this, it helped me very much
  • It was absolutely wonderful. Nice, calm teachers. Yes there should be more like this.
  • I thought it was great. Everyone was welcoming and the speakers knowledgeable and caring.

Did you learn anything new?

  • Yes information about breath and relaxation
  • Treated with acupuncture for the first time.

Everyone said they learned something new and one mentioned relaxation and one meditation.  Thank you again.

NHS Project - Comments from BA & JA, an unpaid  carer and her spouse

Mrs BA

Measurement of pain in Measure Yourself Care and Welfare (MYCAW) scale 0-6):
Reduction of neck/shoulder pain down by 80%  from 6 down to 1.

Client Comments:
  • Thank you, that was so calming, I feel much better…
  •  I  feel so touched that all of you have you been so kind, such kindness especially coming from complete strangers…
  • My neck is so much better, like if you worked magic on it!  I always feel so much better after treatment but my week is dictated by husband’s state...whether he is having a good or bad day.
  • Unfortunately, I can’t make the changes to my life like I’d like to due to my role as carer & wife to my husband’s illness. But this has been so wonderful for me…the NHS should provide such complementary treatments as a necessity rather than a luxury.
Mr JA

Measurement of pain in MYCAW from (0-6):
Unable to assess client as he was able to only attend 2 acupuncture sessions

Client Comments:
  • I feel fresh…thank you I enjoyed that a lot
  •  Thank you for everything you've done for me..but to speak truefully, I''m disappointed that acupuncture effects has not lasted.  I had hopes for it...I've this horrible disease, I just have to live with it, but I'm grateful for the time you've spent on me.
